Mental Illness
"A condition that impacts a person's thinking, feeling or mood may affect and his or her ability to relate to others and function on a daily basis. Each person will have different experiences, even people with the same diagnosis."
-National Alliance on Mental Illness
Mental illness impacts 18.6% of the population, impacting almost 44 million Americans. However, only about half of those affected recieve mental health services. Unfortunately, stigma and financial difficulties, among other factors, prevent many from obtaining the help they need. With research funding cut annually, it can be difficult to afford treatment, much less find a therapy and medication regimen that successfully relieves the symptoms of any given illness. While some illnesses are sometimes more easily treated, every illness has the potential to be debilitating and/or fatal.
